Job Purpose

The Communication Officer will lead the development and implementation of Concern Worldwide Liberia’s internal and external communications activities, supporting organisational visibility, learning, fundraising, advocacy, and programme quality objectives. The role will focus on identifying, capturing, and communicating high-quality stories of change and programme impact across Concern’s portfolio. The Communication Officer will work closely with programme, MEAL, and management teams to transform evidence, learning, and field experiences into compelling communication products that engage communities, donors, government stakeholders, media, and the wider public. The post holder will be responsible for developing engaging written, visual, and digital content; managing social media platforms; supporting media engagement; ensuring compliance with donor and Concern branding requirements; and strengthening staff capacity in communication and storytelling.

The ideal candidate is a creative and highly motivated communications professional with exceptional storytelling, writing, and social media management skills, capable of transforming complex programme information into compelling human-interest stories, digital content, and visibility products that showcase impact, engage diverse audiences, strengthen donor and public engagement, and amplify the voices of the communities Concern serves.

Core Responsibilities

Storytelling and Content Development

  • Lead the identification, documentation, and dissemination of stories of change, human-interest stories, case studies, success stories, and lessons learned from Concern programmes.
  • Conduct regular field visits to gather programme participants’ testimonies, photographs, videos, and programme evidence.
  • Produce compelling donor-ready and public-facing content showcasing programme achievements and impact.
  • Develop blogs, feature articles, newsletters, learning briefs, fact sheets, case studies, and programme updates.
  • Ensure all communications uphold safeguarding, dignity, informed consent, and ethical storytelling principles.
  • Support senior management and programme teams in preparing communication materials for donors, partners, and external audiences.
  • To demonstrate leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and to role model a positive safeguarding ethos.
  • To participate and contribute as necessary towards Concern’s Emergency response as and when necessary
  • Support in monitoring and coaching of Liberia Non-Governmental organisations (LNGO) that work with concern in implementing activities when the need arises.
  • Be aware of, understand and comply with all of Concern’s Code of Conduct and Associated policies (P4, finance, logistics, HR, security management, etc.).
  • Social Media and Digital Communications
  • Lead and manage Concern Liberia’s social media presence.
  • Develop and implement a social media content calendar aligned with organisational priorities and campaign moments.
  • Create and publish engaging content across digital platforms, including photographs, videos, graphics, reels, and stories.
  • Monitor social media performance and provide monthly analytics and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to increase engagement, visibility, and audience reach.
  • Ensure all social media content complies with Concern policies, safeguarding standards, and donor visibility requirements.
  • Coordinate with Concern’s regional and global communications teams on digital campaigns and visibility initiatives.
  • Organisational Visibility and Branding
  • Support implementation of Concern’s communication, visibility, and branding guidelines across all programmes.
  • Ensure programme materials and events meet donor visibility requirements.
  • Lead the development and production of communication materials, including brochures, banners, presentations, factsheets, reports, videos, and promotional materials.
  • Support high-profile programme launches, donor visits, learning events, workshops, and media engagements.
  • Maintain an updated repository of communication assets, including photographs, videos, publications, and visibility materials.
  • Programme Communication and Learning
  • Work closely with Programme Teams, Technical Advisors, and MEAL staff to communicate programme results and learning.
  • Support the packaging of evidence, research findings, evaluations, and learning into user-friendly communication products.
  • Contribute content for donor reports, proposals, annual reports, and strategic publications.
  • Support organisational learning through the documentation and dissemination of innovative practices and lessons learned.
  • Identify communication opportunities arising from programme achievements and key milestones.
  • Media Relations and External Engagement
  • Cultivate and maintain productive relationships with media organisations and journalists.
  • Draft press releases, media statements, talking points, and briefing materials.
  • Monitor national media coverage relevant to Concern’s priority sectors.
  • Support media visits and interviews in coordination with senior management.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic external visibility and thought leadership.
  • Photography, Videography and Multimedia Production
  • Capture high-quality photographs and videos from programme activities and field visits.
  • Produce multimedia products including short videos, photo stories, testimonial videos, reels, and digital campaigns.
  • Coordinate external photographers, videographers, designers, and consultants where required.
  • Maintain organised archives of multimedia assets.
  • Capacity Strengthening
  • Build staff awareness and capacity in storytelling, photography, social media, and communication techniques.
  • Provide coaching to programme teams on documenting programme achievements and lessons.
  • Support partners to strengthen communication and visibility practices.

Role Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Studies, Development Studies, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Professional training in communications, digital media, storytelling, journalism, or content creation is an advantage.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in communications, media, journalism, public relations, or development communications.

Demonstrated experience producing high-quality stories, feature articles, case studies, reports, and communication products [

  • Proven experience managing organisational social media accounts and digital platforms.
  • Experience developing communication materials for development or humanitarian programmes.
  • Experience in photography, videography, and multimedia content production.
  • Experience working with international NGOs or donor-funded programmes is highly desirable.
